  • We Enjoyed Lesser-Priced Dining Out

Our family enjoyed their stay in this ancient city and enjoyed lesser-priced dining from traditional Spanish seafood restaurants to those owned by European, British, German, Swedish, and even Chinese. All these were available in and around the city center. Our daughter Jill loved the traditional lamb shoulder.

With seafood, lamb, steak and Pallea my family's entire dining out experience coast under sixty dollars. Recreational opportunities around here in Torrevieja and all of it is within easy access. Some of the best golfing in the world is it was here at the Villamartin courses the '94 Mediterranean Open was played.

I was particularly happy that my family often looked after themselves allowing me to have what amounted to a golfing holidays with courses that surrounded Torrevieja with names like, the renowned La Manga Golf Club, Las Ramblas, Quesada, and Campoamor. It was hard to get green time in the newest called La Finca. My wife and I enjoyed choosing from numerous tennis facilities. Torrevieja offers those interested in thrills and excitement a flying club, a bull ring, a municipal football stadium, a wild water park, and other entertainment facilities.

  • What Is In A Tower

Today my wife and I discovered that it was not difficult to obtain cash, while visiting in this ancient city. There are numerous banks (although no British banks) but with some English speaking staff and cash machines that are part of the worldwide network. We did discover that most of the shops and restaurants would not accept "plastic" or even traveler's checks. Do remember to carry enough "Euros." We had rented an economical car and my children, both being ecologists, wondered allowed about the cost of fuel. It was a pleasure to discover the cost of fuel was most reasonable. We had pre-booked a day excursion where we enjoyed the peace and tranquility of fascinating forests and pine clad mountains. On our last day we planned to take a boat excursion from the marina out to the beautiful Isla deTabarca. If your younger children become board, try the water or safari parks, go-carting or other local theme parks. The ladies in your travel party will love the array of bargains such as perfume of toggery shops. While here, relax amidst the ever present street markets.

  • As We Drove Into Torrevieja

My family loved the idea of soft velvety beaches, and three hundred and sixty odd days of total sunshine. The World Health Organization reports that this is the best climate in Europe. In the smaller tourist destination of Torrevieja, we discovered a wide array of bargain Villas, with great golfing and water sports among friendly people in a very Spanish setting. The ancient vacation center of Torrevieja is filled with multi ethnic history from the ruins of the Roman pier at La Mata, to the countless wonderful churches with an array of architectural designs.
We continued to relax and play within this holiday center and both Jill and Brian appreciate learning about the ancient city's famous historic salt production with a visit to the Museum of Sea and Salt. The town's salt is exported to northern Europe, Canada, the United States, and Western Africa and is used for a variety of purposes such as a dressing for salting meat and fish, in industries as a water softener. They came back with the news that salt is still an important industry with the surrounding salt lagoons both in Torrevieja and La Mata. My adventurous wife decided to try out the famous healthful salt baths that are often touted as a cure for skin conditions. Our Son Brian was keenly interested in the ancient historical guard tower, which at one time acted as an early warning for the town. Apparently the very name Torrevieja (Torre Vieja (in Spanish), means Old Tower).
